There's a Vogue legend in town: Irving Penn — the most influential fashion photographer of the last century — or more so his work is shown at the «Centenniel» exhibition at the renowned C/O Berlin gallery from March 23rd till July 1st.
Glamourous shots for Vogue Magazine, portraits of traders and ethnic tribes, exquisit still lifes, several collections of Issey Miyake, nudes of all kinds of women or portraits of Pablo Picasso, Miles Davis or Marlene Dietrich: Penn did it all.
Let's vogue right in between his artwork and give it actual life.

••• FACE — Serving Cover Model
Female Figure Face — Cover Hair (1 GP)
Especially in the 60ies the photographer shot numerous covers for Vogue magazine. One trend in this decade: artsy hair. Braid and cut your real or fake hair to create an opulent geometrical look. For your outfit: Bring it in a 60ies typical a-cut-dress.
Open to: Drags, Fem Queens, Women
Male Figure Face – The Handsome Trades (1 GP)
“The Small Trades” was Penn’s most extended projects which he returned to over many decades starting in Paris in 1950. It portraits skilled trades people dressed in their work clothes and carrying the tools of their respective trades. Imagine you are the handsome waiter of a noble restaurant. Serve your groomed face literally on a silver platter in an elegant garçon outfit.
Open to: Butch Queens, Transmen
••• RUNWAY – Hyperhuman
European Runway – Colorful Body Modification (1 GP)
Fashion photography often times is abstract art. In many of Penn’s photos the models are not recognizable anymore or even dehumanized. Reconstruct your body with bright colorful make up, fabric and other accessories and serve the runway. Be creative!
American Runway — Miyake’s Future Coats (1 GP)
The bigger, the better: Bring it in an oversize coat and make it a futuristic look like those Irving Penn photographed of designer Issey Miyake during their many collaborations.
••• BEST DRESSED OTA — Rock’n’Royalty (1 GP)
For the 1990 October issue Irving Penn shot yet another fierce editorial for Vogue Magazine called “Rock’n’Royalty”. Be the best dressed person at C/O Berlin by wearing an opulent high fashion outfit with an edgy twist inspired by this editorial. Same for Male Figures.
••• BIZARRE OTA – Stairway to Miyake (1 GP)
Issey Miyake’s abstract designs are iconic, but you can bring them to the next level: Develope your own creation inspired by the stair-like pieces of the Japanese designer, but don’t forget: Bizarre is about you not looking human anymore. Be the stairs!
••• REALNESS – All about the camera!
Male Figure Realness – Be the photographer! (1 GP)
Imagine you are one of the most important photographers of the last century such as Irving Penn, Gordon Parks and many more. Show us your realness in a classy look with a blouson jacket in muted colors like black, brown, camel, grey or sand. No sneakers, but don’t forget your instrument: the camera!
Open to: Transmen, Butch Queens
Female Figure Realness – Be the muse! (1 GP)
Lisa Fonssagrives was, for three decades, the most sought-after model of fashion photography — and more so the muse and wife of Penn. Serve us ff realness and class in one of her high-neck outfits in the style of the fourties or early fifties. Elegant hat mandatory!
Open to: Fem Queens, Drag Queens
••• VOGUE FEM – Flora and Food
Female Figure Performance – Florescence (1 GP)
Penn is known for photographing flowers as well — especially poppies, roses and tulips. There's even a whole Penn flower book. Choose ONE of these three types of flowers for your effect — be it printed on your look or as colorful decoration with real or fake exemplaries – and flourish for your performance.
Open to: Drags, Fem Queens, Women
Butch Queen Vogue Fem – Eat it! (1 GP)
Penn took a lot of food still lifes, a lot of them in unusual combinations. No matter if Fast Food, frutti di mare or tasty fruits: Put it on your outfit – real or printed – and eat your performance!
••• NEW WAY OTA – Animal Instinct (1 GP)
Be an elegant cat of your choice — just like Naomi Campbell and Karen Mulder in the editorial “Animal Instinct” in the 1992 March issue of the US Vogue. Mandatory: Cat lenses and cat eye make up.
••• OLD WAY OTA – Japanese Fight Club (1 GP)
In 2006 Vogue Magazine examined the fashion rebels of Japan in the editorial “Fight Club”. Among them: Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo and her protegé Jun’ya Watanabe. Do it like them and deconstruct your streetwear and bring with a fetish look mask to become a fashionable street fighter.
••• POSING OTA – Fringes (1 GP)
I honestly have no idea what was shown during the Penn exhibition “Fringes” in LA, but it gave me the idea of a flowing and moving fringe look to enhance your poses. So gimme one — with fringes along your arms and/or legs or around your whole body — and make it fashion.
••• BODY OTA — Peek-a-Boo Papermask (2 GP)
Irving Penn took impressive portraits of stars like Pablo Picasso, Miles Davis, Marlene Dietrich and maaany more. Artist Saul Steinberg got portrayed with a paper bag on his head, because he created a photo series with these masks himself. Create a paper bag face mask and wear nothing but this and black under- or swim wear and grace our eyes with your curves, muscles and co. (U can take off the mask after your tens if you prefer.)
••• SEX SIREN OTA — Wrapped up Nudes (2 GP)
Starting already in the 40ies Irving Penn captured all kinds of earthly body types throughout his career in their most natural state: naked. Since it’s sexier to leave some parts to people’s fantasy, wrap up your private parts and whatever other parts u want with transparent plastic materials. Make it hot/hoe, but fashion.
NOTE: Due to the location being an art gallery showing all these expensive pieces in the room where we vogue, they cannot allow crazy glitter canons, water action, smoke bombs and so on. Keep your wow-effect a little more subtle — or I will have debts for the rest of my life ;)
