LAMB are the electronic music duo consisting of the singer-songwriter LOU RHODES and the producer ANDY BARLOW from Manchester, England who formed originally in 1996. Their music is heavily influenced by hip hop, drum 'n' bass and jazz styles, which they successfully combine to achieve their electronic genre.
Widely regarded as pioneers of the ‘90’s electronic scene, LAMB mark the 21st anniversary of their seminal eponymous debut album with an autumn tour – and the release of new material.
Earlier this year the musical partnership of ANDY BARLOW and LOU RHODES reconvened in Barlow’s Sussex studio in order to revisit LAMB and work on live interpretations of the songs. This period in the studio reignited the creative process and new material began to take shape. Amongst the songs was “Illumina”.
A heavy slice of dub electronica, with the beguiling vocals of Lou Rhodes, the heart of Lamb beats as deep and strong as ever on new single “Illumina”. ANDY BARLOW’s rich production, rock solid beats and broad palette of industrial, organic and digital sound, combine with LOU RHODES seductive vocals providing a timely reminder of their distinct place in the musical firmament.
The autumn European tour celebrates the 21st anniversary of LAMB’s ground breaking debut with the album played in it’s entirety and a live band including the trumpet-player and double-bassist who played on the original record.
LAMB released in 1996, set the template for LAMB’s alternative electronic pop – soulful, laced with drum & bass, twitchy funk, melancholic downtempo grooves, yet never, ever settling into easiness. Twenty years on it sounds just as contemporary. It’s an album that keeps the listener on their toes, from its trio of tech-step-laced numbers, ‘Lusty’, ‘God Bless’, and ‘Cotton Wool’, to the explosive, epic ‘Gorecki’, and the closing heart-worn slowie, ‘Feela’.
“In terms of the live shows it’s a real adventure,” says Lou. “On the one hand we’ll be reinterpreting but, on the other, we really want to bring it back to how we originally did these tunes.” Tunes such as ‘Trans Fatty Acid’, have mutated over the years into proper psychedelic dance work-outs but others have never been played in concert at all.
Don´t miss LAMB live at FUNKHAUS Berlin, it is an experience you will never forget!
