M1 1AA is the postcode of Manchester’s inner city. The landscape of the area is changing rapidly. Money is being poured into private developments projects and anonymous glass buildings are sprouting up across the inner city in similar fashion to other cosmopolitan cities of the world.
Just a few miles away, whole neighbourhoods have seemingly missed out on this investment, the wave of redevelopment completely passing them by and leaving them run down. For one week I visited these areas to portray local adolescents and young adults.
The 18 — 26 year olds played an ambivalent role in the EU Referendum 2016. On the one hand, the majority of this age group voted to remain in the EU, on the other – turnout was the lowest in comparison to any other age group. In Manchester I reflected on how this generation, which I’m also part of, thinks about the future. M1 1AA draws a subjective view of their world.
